Print Book Collections

In keeping with the Aurora Public Library's mission to provide individuals with a variety of materials and programs to support and increase their desire to read and view for pleasure and to support the development of early literacy, the library provides a collection of books, with new titles added throughout the year, to appeal to a broad range of ages and interests.

ADULT COLLECTIONS include:

New books
General Fiction
Mystery/Suspense/Thriller/Horror
Science Fiction/Fantasy
Romance Paperbacks
Westerns
Large Print titles (sorted by genre)
General Nonfiction
Minnesota Nonfiction Collection
Oversize Nonfiction Collection

While there are not separate collections of Christian Fiction or novels by Minnesota authors, fiction published by members of the Evangelical Christian Publishing Association may be identified by a blue band across the top of its spine, and titles by Minnesota authors or that are set in Minnesota have a Minnesota sticker on their spines.

HOW IS IT ORGANIZED?

New fiction is shelved alphabetically by the author's last name.  New nonfiction is organized by subject and shelved in numerical Dewey Decimal System order.  Books remain on the new book shelf for their first 6 months at the library.

Fiction is organized by genre, and is alphabetized by author within each genre.  Books that are part of a series will have the book number on the spine label.

The nonfiction, Minnesota nonfiction, and oversize nonfiction collections are organized by subject and shelved in numerical Dewey Decimal System order.

CHILDREN'S COLLECTIONS include

New chapter books
New teen titles
Picture books
Oversize Picture books
Early Readers
Board books
Chapter books
Teen titles
Juvenile nonfiction (titles geared toward younger readers are in the children's room; most of the children's nonfiction is interfiled with the adult nonfiction.  It may be identified by a "J" (for juvenile) on the first line of the spine label).

HOW IS IT ORGANIZED?

The picture books and early readers are shelved alphabetically by author.
Chapter books and teen titles are alphabetized by either the author or, in the case of some series, by the name of the series.
The nonfiction titles are organized by subject and shelved in numerical Dewey Decimal System order.

HOW CAN I SEARCH THE CATALOG?

You may search for, and place holds on, books in the Aurora Public Library catalog.

HOW LONG CAN I BORROW IT?

Adult books have a two-week checkout for the first three months in the library's collection, with one 2-week renewal allowed as long as no other patrons are waiting for the title.  After that, they have a four-week checkout period, with one 4-week renewal allowed as long as no other patrons are waiting for the title.

All children's books have a four-week checkout period, with one 4-week renewal allowed as long as no other patrons are waiting for the title.

HOW MANY CAN I BORROW?

There are no limits on the number of books that may be checked out at a time (as many as you can keep track of!).
